WA policeman charged with assault

A Perth police officer has been charged with assaulting a man while he was off duty.

It is alleged the 35-year-old officer was involved in an incident on Pier Street on August 22.

The officer from the South East Metropolitan District has been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm.

He is due to appear in Perth Magistrates Court on September 19.

The officer has been moved to a non-operational area while an internal investigation is conducted.
