WA parliament clerk fights weapons charges

A West Australian parliamentary officer will fight allegations he was carrying a baseball bat and disguise near his boss' home.

Nigel Lake was suspended from his duties as clerk of the Legislative Council after he was arrested on the night of February 17 in City Beach.

WA police declined at the time to confirm reports Lake was caught wearing a black hoodie, latex gloves, black tracksuit pants and black shoes near the home of his boss, Nigel Pratt.

In the Perth Magistrates Court on Thursday, Lake pleaded not guilty to possessing a disguise, carrying an article with intent to cause fear and unlawful use of a tracking device.

The 49-year-old was flanked by supporters and was silent as he left court.

He is scheduled to appear in the same court on August 18 to determine when he will stand trial.
