WA Metronet plan 'nothing new': Nalder

West Australian Transport minister Dean Nalder says Labor's revived Metronet plan is nothing new and the opposition is simply "admiring the problem" without delivering any real solutions.

Labor leader Mark McGowan has promised to make the completion of the Airport line linking Forrestfield to the city a priority, extend the Joondalup line to Yanchep, extend the Armadale line to Byford and create a circle line through Perth's southern suburbs from Thornlie.

But Mr Nalder told 6PR radio on Monday that the state government was already addressing Perth's congestion woes and public transport infrastructure, including a 30 per cent increase in buses and a 28 per cent increase in the train fleet by the end of next year.

He added that the state government's Forrestfield-Airport link works would also start next year.
