WA man wants to change shooting plea

A man who admitted shooting another man in the chest outside a Perth police station now says he wants to change his plea.

Asmir Supuk, 31, was scheduled to be sentenced in the WA District Court on Tuesday, having previously pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm over the February 2016 incident.

At a previous hearing, it was argued that Supuk accidentally fired the gun outside Rockingham Police Station when the victim tried to "kick out" at him.

Judge Felicity Davis planned to sentence Supuk over the shooting, which was previously downgraded from a charge of attempted murder, as well as several drugs and weapon offences.

But defence counsel Mark Gunning said Supuk wanted to fight the grievous bodily harm charge and was trying to get a new lawyer.

Supuk repeatedly interjected while Mr Gunning and Judge Davis discussed the matter before the judge spoke to him directly.

He told her it was his life and he was not guilty in the "circumstances that were said".

A visibly displeased Judge Davis adjourned the matter and remanded Supuk in custody.

She told Supuk he must contact Legal Aid to organise a lawyer before his next court appearance on March 1.
