WA man charged over siege with child

A 23-year-old man has been charged after a four-hour siege involving a child in Western Australia's South West region.

Police were alerted on Saturday morning after a woman at the Dalyellup house sent text messages to friends indicating a man she knew was there armed with a gun.

The woman and child were eventually able to walk free and others in the house left shortly later.

The Tactical Response Group, a mobile armoured vehicle and a police negotiator had been deployed during the siege but the man was arrested without incident just before 1pm.

He was charged overnight with possessing an altered firearm while not being the holder of a licence and breaching bail.

Police inquiries are continuing.
