WA learner drivers need to do 50 hours

It will soon be tougher for West Australian learner drivers to get their licences with new rules requiring them to show they've undertaken 50 hours of supervised driving first.

The 50-hour log book also needs to include five hours of supervised night-time driving before learner drivers can take their practical test.

The changes will come in from October 9 and aim to better prepare applicants, produce safer drivers and reduce crashes involving novice drivers, Transport Minister Rita Saffioti.
