WA Labor would move departments to regions

Some West Australian government departments could be moved to regional areas up to four hours drive from Perth if Labor wins the next state election.

Spruiking Labor's vision for the creation of "innovation precincts", a key aspect of its jobs policy package, Opposition Leader Mark McGowan said he was open to sending government departments as far afield as Albany in WA's Great Southern region.

"I'd love to move government agencies out of the city - Fremantle, Joondalup, Albany, Bunbury - I think they are great ways of disseminating jobs and allowing people to live in proximity to where they work," Mr McGowan told reporters on Monday.
