WA govt 'abandons' FIFO workers: unions

The West Australian government has been accused of abandoning fly-in fly-out workers after it backed less than half of the recommendations in a report on the mental health impacts of FIFO.

The state government advised on Tuesday that it supported 14, noted 15 and partially supported one of the 30 recommendations in the final report handed down by a parliamentary committee, saying many could be achieved by strengthening existing codes of practice.

Australian Manufacturing Workers Union state secretary Steve McCartney said it was a major concern that the government refused to establish a dedicated FIFO Code of Practice.

The CFMEU and Electrical Trades Union are also angered by the government's response.
