WA dad in court accused of killing baby

A 21-year-old Perth man accused of killing his own baby might not face a trial until April next year.

Dylan Clinton O'Meara appeared in the West Australian Supreme Court on Wednesday having previously denied unlawfully killing his seven-month-old son Shisui Grady O'Meara at their Rockingham home in April last year.

O'Meara's parents attended court with him, although the baby's mother, who has previously been present to support him, was not.

The court heard O'Meara's trial could not go ahead until April next year because medical professionals who would be giving evidence about the baby's death were not available until then.

Justice Stephen Hall said he was concerned about it taking so long for the trial to go ahead and told prosecutor Kim Jennings the medical expert witnesses needed to provide written evidence about what was preventing them from appearing.

O'Meara remains free on bail.
