WA crews on alert for severe fire danger

Fire crews are preparing for another severe fire danger day in central coastal areas and parts of the Pilbara in Western Australia.

Hot, dry and windy conditions are forecast as a severe fire danger rating has been issued for Sunday.

Residents in the City of Geraldton, Shire of Chapman Valley, Shire of Northampton and Shire of East Pilbara have been warned to stay alert and watch for signs of fire.

"If a fire starts and takes hold, it will be unpredictable, move very fast and be difficult for firefighters to bring under control," the Department of Fire and Emergency Services warned.

"If you are not prepared to the highest level, leaving bushfire risk areas early in the day is your safest option."
