Western Australia's budget will be handed down a week later than originally scheduled to include up-to-date estimates of the state's GST payments.

Treasurer Mike Nahan said on Wednesday May 14 was the earliest date available for the state government to have confidence it could include accurate GST figures in its 2015-16 budget papers.

Dr Nahan said the push back was also due to the delayed release of the Commonwealth Grants Commission's recommended GST distribution, which will be available to all state treasurers on April 9 instead of early March as usual.

The federal budget will be handed down on May 12.

Dr Nahan said he would discuss WA's GST payments with federal treasurer Joe Hockey in Canberra on March 18.
