WA bikies jailed for baseball bat bashing

Three Rebels bikies who admitted their roles in a brutal baseball bat attack on a man over a dispute about a car in Perth have been jailed, including the instigator who was sentenced to more than six years behind bars.

Paul Sjahrir Marsandi, Jason Paul Gastarov and Christopher Mark Allen bashed Robin Christopher Yarran in font of his pregnant partner in 2014.

There was a dispute about the ownership of the car and after Mr Yarran smashed a window with the bat, Marsandi, 31, began hitting him, the WA District Court heard on Thursday.

Gastarov arrived after the initial beating and joined in for more, while Allen was there for the entire assault but failed to connect a kick.

Judge Patrick O'Neal described the attack as brutal, cold and ruthless.

"This offending was carried out by you in the apparent belief that you could do it and get away with it, and that no one, including the victim, would dare to stand up against you," he said.

Judge O'Neal said while he did not have a victim impact statement, he was aware Mr Yarran had been hospitalised and required surgery for his injuries.

"I've seen photographs taken of him when he was taken to hospital and I will say it looks like he has emerged from a very serious car wreck," he said.

Marsandi, who pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm, was jailed for six years and four months, with parole eligibility in April 2021.

Gastarov, 41, who pleaded guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm, was jailed for three-and-a-half years and his earliest release date will be in October next year.

Allen, 35, admitted to the same charge and was sentenced to two years and 10 months behind bars, and will be eligible for parole in June next year.
