Vigilantes target WA child abuser

A Perth judge has delayed sentencing for a man who played a role in the sexual abuse of a 13-year-old girl so he can support his seriously ill daughter after she has surgery.

But Mark Wesley Liggins has been warned he is likely to face jail time after he admitted using electronic communications to attempt to expose a child to indecent matter or procure them to engage in sexual conduct.

Defence lawyer Patti Chong told the West Australian District Court on Friday that Liggins' daughter had a serious medical condition and needed "major surgery" next month.

She also said Liggins had again been a victim of vigilantism, with vandals breaking all the windows at his home with a cricket bat.

Following the attack, Liggins had his bail conditions altered last week so he could live with his mother, who has cancer, she said.

Judge Mark Herron has requested information about who can care for Liggins' mother if he is in prison, noting there were already others who had been sharing in the responsibility.

Ms Chong previously claimed Liggins had endured death threats and other acts of vandalism on his property, which meant he could not leave his house or work.

She also argued her client was wrongly "named and shamed" in the media over his connection to an alleged pedophile ring.

Outside court, Ms Chong said the vigilantes should be ashamed.

"He (Liggins) will be dealt with by the court appropriately and to take the law into your own hands is disgraceful," she said.

"If those people are found, they should be brought before the court."

His daughter's undisclosed illness has also taken a toll on Liggins, Ms Chong added.

"It's affecting him emotionally and psychologically, but we are grateful to his honour for allowing him the opportunity to be with his daughter."

Liggins is due back in court on March 16.
