Vegan activist spends night in WA cell

A vegan activist accused of being the ringleader behind the theft of a $1500 calf and a dead piglet from West Australian farms has spent another night behind bars after breaching his bail conditions.

James Warden, from the group Direct Action Everywhere, failed to report to police on Friday - the same day he attended a protest outside restaurants.

The 25-year-old handed himself in to police on Monday, spent the night in custody, then appeared in Perth Magistrates Court on Tuesday where he was warned he must abide by his bail conditions.

Warden was briefly imprisoned last month after failing to meet his surety requirements for bail because his sister, who had previously provided his surety, was on a flight back to NSW, so he had to wait for the paperwork to be completed.

He has pleaded guilty to trespassing on the farms with some co-accused, but denies stealing the animals.

Warden was fined earlier this year for similar offending, which he live-streamed.
