Ute tray meth cook gets jail time

A 35-year-old man who manufactured methylamphetamine from the rear tray of his ute has been jailed for 22 months.

Darren Wayne Stein was caught red-handed by police as he and a co-accused made the drug in bushland near Mandurah, south of Perth, in May.

In his sentencing remarks on Thursday, District Court of Western Australia Judge Richard Keen noted Stein had described his charges as "pathetic".

Judge Keen told Stein the charges were in fact very serious, but he had pleaded guilty, which showed he accepted responsibility.

Stein will be eligible for parole after serving 11 months behind bars.
