US naval officer jumps from Perth balcony

An American naval officer has serious injuries after trying to jump from a 10th floor balcony of a Perth hotel into a swimming pool.

Guests heard a disturbance between a man and a woman from the naval ship USS Carl Vinson at 1am on Monday before the man jumped.

It's believed both were heavily intoxicated.

The man was taken to Royal Perth Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
