A deliberately lit bushfire that came perilously close to unexploded ordnance at a defence training area north of Perth is not yet controlled or contained but its alert has been downgraded.

A bushfire watch and act warning was issued for Nilgen Nature Reserve in the Shire of Gingin on Monday afternoon, but has since been downgraded to an advice alert as there is no longer a threat to lives and homes.

The fire has burnt through about 300 hectares of bushland.
