Two Finnish tourists have fought off a man who attacked them with a shovel and hit one of them with his vehicle on the Bibbulmun Track in Paul’s Valley.

Police allege a 36-year-old man hit a 33-year old-man with his Mitsubishi Triton around 1:30pm on Saturday, before getting out of the car and attacking him with a shovel.

It’s believed the driver then turned his attention to a 33-year-old woman before the male victim managed to stand up and struggled with the driver.

The woman then picked up the shovel, hitting the driver with it, managing to stop the scuffle.

A passerby noticed the commotion and helped the two victims hold down the 36-year-old until police arrived.

The Finnish Nationals, along with the accused, were all taken to hospital for treatment.

The 33-year-old man was treated for a serious head wound.

A 36-year-old man from Sawyers Valley has been charged with Attempted Unlawfully to Kill.

Police say the victims are on a working holiday in Australia and did not know their attacker.
