Two men found guilty of violent Western Australia carpark murder

Two men have been found guilty of murdering David Liam Johnson who was bashed, run over by a car and shot in a Perth park.

Alexander James Stephens and Angus William John Ritchie had been on trial in the West Australian Supreme Court, accused of murdering the 32-year-old man in Swanbourne in March last year.

During the trial, the court heard Mr Johnson was invited to a "church night" gathering for a gang but later had an argument with guests and was stomped on, verbally abused and kicked.

He was then driven to Lime Kiln Field, where he was shot.

The jury delivered its verdict on Wednesday afternoon.

Outside court, the victim's mother, Christine Johnson, said she was relieved by the verdict and believed justice had been done.

"We couldn't have asked for anything better," she said.

"But my heart goes out to (the defendants') families as well because they're as much victims as anybody else."

The family said they wanted Mr Johnson to be remembered as a beautiful and happy soul, and a free spirit.

"We had him for 32 years and I think that's probably the most important thing that we've got to remember," Ms Johnson said.

"We've got all those memories - no one can ever take them away from us."
