Tribute for Irish workers killed in Perth

A construction team has observed a minute's silence after two Irish sub-contractors were fatally crushed by a concrete panel at an apartment complex in East Perth.

The men were reportedly having a cigarette break at the Bennett Street site on Wednesday morning when the panel fell onto them.

The Jaxon Construction workforce of more than 100 people were joined by Joan Ross, president of Irish crisis help group Claddagh Association, to lay a wreath in memory of the men on Thursday.

"We have contacted the men's families to offer our deepest sympathies," Jaxon chief executive David Dodd said.

"These young men were treasured sons, brothers, loved ones and their loss is being deeply felt.

"The Irish community in Perth is also mourning the loss of these young men and our workforce shares their deep sense of shock and grief."

WorkSafe is investigating the accident, which will be the subject of a coronial inquest.
