Trial to proceed over death at WA party
AAP
A man facing trial for the murder of another man at a Perth party intends to plead guilty to manslaughter, but the prosecution says it will not accept the lesser charge.
Ashley James Gunson is accused of fatally stabbing 20-year-old Jamie Devine in the southern suburb of Atwell on January 11.
His defence lawyer said Gunson intended to plead guilty to the lesser charge of unlawful killing because he acted in self-defence.

But prosecutor Amanda Forrester said the plea would not be accepted.
The Supreme Court heard on Thursday that 60 witnesses were set down to give evidence at the trial, which begins on December 1.
