Trial set for WA train station murder

Provisional trial dates have been set for five people accused of murdering a man near a Perth train station following Australia Day celebrations.

Patrick "Paddy" Slater, 26, died in hospital after he was attacked with star pickets, screwdrivers and rocks following a brawl near Elizabeth Quay Station in the early hours of January 27.

Robert Christopher James Pickett, Christopher James Birdsall, Clinton Fredrick Mead, Dylan Anthony and Stefan Lazba Mead appeared in the WA Supreme Court via video link on Monday where Justice Lindy Jenkins set a five-week trial to start on May 29.

The men will next appear in court for a status conference on January 19.

Three youths - including a 12-year-old boy, who was 11 at the time and is believed to be one of the youngest people ever charged with murder in Australia - have also been charged over Mr Slater's death.

It is alleged Mr Slater died from a "penetrating injury to the chest".
