Travers quits WA shadow cabinet

Prominent West Australian Labor MP Ken Travers has quit the shadow cabinet, citing personal reasons.

Opposition leader Mark McGowan said in a statement that Mr Travers wanted to focus on electorates across the northern suburbs.

"On behalf of caucus and the WA Labor party, I thank Ken for his contribution to the shadow cabinet over the past six-and-a-half years, especially his work in the transport portfolio and the visionary Metronet policy," he said.

Mr McGowan will temporarily take on Mr Travers' responsibilities in transport, agriculture and food, infrastructure, the Wheatbelt, and the Mid West.

Federal MP for Perth and former state infrastructure minister Alannah MacTiernan was quick to respond to the announcement on Twitter, saying she was sorry to see Mr Travers leave his transport role.

"He has been an informed fighter for the cause of transport in WA," she said.
