A transgender prostitute accused of infecting a West Australian client with HIV has been charged with grievous bodily harm.

Clayton James Palmer will face Perth Magistrates Court on Saturday after she was extradited from NSW.

One of Palmer's male clients was in September 2015 allegedly diagnosed with HIV after having unprotected sex with her for months.

Palmer, 38, had been told she was infected with HIV almost a year earlier but kept having sex with the man for money, police allege.

"Despite the diagnoses and counselling about treatment options and disclosure obligations, the woman allegedly participated in unprotected sex with a male client from early 2015," WA police said.

Palmer is also accused of working around Redfern and was arrested at a Surry Hills hotel in Sydney on Tuesday afternoon.

Sex crime squad detectives are investigating her activities in Sydney, police say.
