'He was blue': Toddler brought back to life after choking on a grape

A Perth toddler has been brought back to life after he choked on a grape.

Eighteen-month-old Zach Wali was with his parents in his Southern River home when he began choking, and his mum and dad called emergency services.

Fortunately, local police were in the area doing a routine patrol when the Triple-Zero call came in, and rushed to help.

They said the 18-month-old was lifeless, had turned blue, and did not breath for seven minutes while they worked to save him.

“We saw dad holding the 18-month-old boy over his arm and he was dead at the stage…I got down on one knee and I started to try and pry the grape out of his mouth and it was enough for us to start CPR,” traffic officer Daniel Pryce said.

“We went through five or six cycles, by the third breath it was a bit controlled and then we started getting the pattern.”

“I think they are amazing, they are incredible I cannot thank Daniel enough for what he has done,” Zach’s mother Sehar Wali said.

Incredibly, three months on from the emergency Zach has made a full recovery.

“I am so thankful, he saved my son’s life, he is a true hero, a true hero,” Ms Wali said.
