Parents warn after WA tot's driveway death

A grieving Perth couple has warned of the danger to children posed by reversing cars after their toddler was run over by her dad in their Perth driveway.

The toddler, named as 23-month-old Savannah, was struck in the driveway of her Inglewood home on Tuesday afternoon.

She was rushed to the Princess Margaret Hospital for Children in a serious condition but later died.

The girl's family warned others to take care in driveways in a statement issued through WA Police on Wednesday.

"Thank you for the outpouring of love for Savannah," the statement said.

"Savannah's parents would like to warn all families about the dangers of reversing cars and children.

"They wish that their privacy be respected at this time."

Hinting that the family had been touched by tragedy in the past, the statement also said: "Savannah is now with her sister Gracie in Heaven".

A WA police spokesman said investigators will prepare a report for the coroner.
