Ticket scalpers targeted in new WA laws

Ticket scalpers in Western Australia could be fined $5000 under legislation that the opposition will introduce to parliament this week.

Labor leader Mark McGowan said the aim was to stop scalpers buying tickets to big events, such as football finals and concerts, and re-selling them at a huge profit to genuine fans.

Under the plan, a minister could declare a "major event" and that would make it an offence to re-sell a ticket for more than the original price without the consent of the event organiser or their authorised agent.
