Suspensions dip at troubled WA high school

Student behaviour at a troubled high school in Western Australia's Goldfields region, where security guards were hired following an assault on a teacher, has improved significantly, new figures suggest.

A Department of Education review in 2016 found major problems at Kalgoorlie-Boulder Community High School including low staff morale, poor student behaviour and high suspension rates, with 83 students sent home in the first term alone.

On Friday, Education Minister Sue Ellery said the number of students suspended in the first semester of this year had fallen by 22 per cent compared to the same period last year, with the number of incidents resulting in suspensions down by 35 per cent.
