STATE OF THE WA PARLIAMENT

The Legislative Assembly has 59 members, and to win power 30 seats must be won.

The Liberal party currently has 30 seats, Labor 21, Nationals seven and one Independent Liberal who defected from the Liberal party during term.

Labor needs to gain nine seats with a uniform swing of 10 per cent to form majority government.

The Legislative Council has 36 members: Liberal party currently has 16 members, Labor 11, Nationals 5, Greens 2, Shooters Farmers and Fishers 2.

Members are elected from six regions - South West, Agriculture, Mining/Pastoral, East Metro, South Metro and North Metro.

POLLS

All polls bar one from Morgan have had Mark McGowan's Labor ahead of the Barnett government in the past year.

A January Reach-TEL poll shows Mr McGowan continues to be preferred premier ahead of Premier Colin Barnett, 55.7 per cent to 44.3 per cent.

The poll also showed the Liberal and Labor votes have dropped since the last ReachTEL poll in September, to 33 per cent and 32 per cent respectively.

Labor is ahead on a two-party preferred basis, 52 per cent to the Liberals' 48 per cent.

One Nation would win almost 11 per cent of the primary vote if WA went to the polls today, according to the latest poll.

VOTERS

There are a total of 1,590,527 people enrolled to vote in WA, as of December 31, 2016. The rolls close at 6pm on Thursday February 9.
