Sole Liberal nominee for WA seat of Vasse

There's only one Liberal nominee for the West Australian seat of Vasse, vacated by former state treasurer Troy Buswell.

Libby Mettam, a journalist turned media adviser for MP Barry House, has thrown her hat into the ring uncontested.

Ms Mettam is the Liberal party's Dunsborough president, the vice-president of the Dunsborough Yallingup Chamber of Commerce and also a publicist for CinefestOZ.

She could have faced competition from the party's Busselton president, Lee Herridge, but last week he reportedly decided against nominating.

It's understood Vasse locals are very keen to see the seat filled by a local.

Labor has already ruled itself out of the running, saying Vasse was always a safe Liberal seat.

The Nationals say they have a good field of aspirants and will close nominations on Thursday, then pre-select their candidate on Saturday.

State president Colin de Grussa said there had been a lot of interest.

"We're very keen for a strong local champion," he told AAP on Monday.

After a strong result at last year's election, Mr de Grussa said the Nationals would again push hard to gain ground.

"It's an interesting contest. I don't think anybody would deny the fact that probably a bit of shine has come off the Liberals - where that goes is another question.

"With Labor abandoning its constituents down there, you'd imagine that would have upset a few people."
