Sheds confirmed damaged in WA bushfire

A bushfire north of Geraldton in Western Australia's Mid West region remains at the highest alert level, but a separate blaze within the town has been contained after damaging sheds and fencing.

An emergency warning for Utakarra has been downgraded to a 'watch and act' alert, but it remains in place for coastal Glenfield and neighbouring Drummond Cove, where lives and homes are at risk.

The blaze is out of control and unpredictable.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services dismissed reports two homes had been destroyed at Utakarra, but confirmed outdoor property had been damaged.

That fire is not yet controlled, and there is still a possible threat to lives and homes, DFES says.

Roads have been closed and motorists are asked to avoid the areas.
