RECENT SHARK ATTACKS AND CULL IN WA

2013

* November: Chris Boyd, 35, killed at Gracetown in the South West, sparking debate that leads the WA government to trial shark cull with baited drum lines

2014

* January: WA government starts sharks cull after spate of attacks and five deaths with 60 baited drum lines around metropolitan and south west coast beaches.

* April: Cull trial ends after 64 tiger sharks are killed, with another 99 caught and released. No white sharks are caught

* October: Surfer Sean Pollard, 23, loses his arm and other hand in attack near Esperance; two white sharks caught and killed but not confirmed if either was responsible

* November: Cameron Pearman, 13, bitten by a shark while surfing at Port Bouvard

* December: Spear fisher Jay Muscat, 17, killed in an attack by a 4-5m white shark near Albany

2015

* October: Surfer Eli Zawadzki, 18, bitten on the foot at Dawesville

2016

* June: Surfer Ben Gerring dies, three days after losing leg in attack at Falcon Beach; next day a large shark is trapped and killed nearby by baited drum lines.
