WA prison escapee faces court

A man who allegedly escaped from Western Australia's largest prison by breaking through two locked doors and four razor wire fences has appeared in court.

Brett Shannon Klimczak, 31, escaped from Acacia Prison on Monday morning but was caught hours later while trying to evade police in Jane Brook.

Prison operator Serco has suspended two guards with pay while it investigates the incident.

Klimczak appeared in the Midland Magistrates Court on Tuesday charged with several offences, including escaping lawful custody and reckless driving.

He did not enter a plea.

Klimczak is scheduled to appear in Perth Magistrates Court on August 29.
