The search has resumed for a swimmer who went missing after jumping into a river from a cliff face in Western Australia's far north.

The man, a tourist believed to be in his 30s, was on a private boat with a group of people on the Ord River in Kununurra on Sunday morning, when he jumped into the water from a height of about 20 metres.

Senior Sergeant Steve Principe said the man jumped in feet first, floated to the surface, then slowly slipped back under water.

The search on Monday includes three boats, and police divers will search underwater on Tuesday.

Police don't believe saltwater crocodiles are a factor.
