Scaffolder dies after WA refinery fall

A scaffolder has died after falling from a considerable height at Alcoa's Kwinana alumina refinery, the Department of Mines and Petroleum has confirmed.

There are conflicting reports as to how far the scaffolder fell, with a St John Ambulance spokesman saying the worker fell between 30 and 40 metres, while DMP state mining engineer Andrew Chaplyn said the fall was around 10 metres.

Mr Chaplyn said department inspectors would arrive on the site in Perth's south on Wednesday afternoon to investigate he incident.

In a statement, Alcoa said it was deeply saddened, and that no other employees or contractors were injured in the accident.
