Residents near fire ravaged Bunnings still unable to return home

Residents are facing their third night away from their homes with wall still threatening to collapse after a $5 million blaze destroyed a Perth Bunnings store.

The building in Inglewood still has at least six hot spots that are still smouldering inside the building.

It’s still too dangerous for firefighters to get inside so they are doing what they can from the air.

Arson Squads have ended their investigation – the cause of the fire isn’t known but it is no longer being treated as suspicious.

Pool chemicals and garden supplies are acting as a hazardous fuel to the blaze.

Excavation machinery will be brought in tomorrow to cut its way through the mangled and charred wreck which means crews can finally gain access inside the building and extinguish hard to reach hotspots.

But evacuated residents are now looking at spending a third night away from home - unable to return because of this wall - deemed unstable and unsafe.

Bunnings staff from that store have been relocated to other stores.

The company says it’s unsure if Bunnings will return to Inglewood in the future.
