A quokka has been filmed drinking from a goon bag on Rottnest Island.

The video was posted on what appears to be a tourist’s Instagram story.

The clip shows a man laughing while tipping the goon bag down to the quokka.

It is still unclear what was inside at the time.

A 32-year-old man has been fined $200 and given a seven day eviction notice from Rottnest, according to police.

The woman recording the video can be heard laughing and encouraging the quokka.

RSPCA WA said feeding quokkas anything other than their natural diet can be extremely harmful.

"Alcohol can potentially kill an animal as small as this," they said.

"What concerns us is that people do this and post it on social media thinking it’s funny, when it is actually intentional cruelty that can have severe or fatal effects on the animal.

"This is not a laughing matter. We need to put a stop to this. Anyone who has any information about this person should call the RSPCA Cruelty Hotline immediately."

The RSPCA said this could be an offence under the Animal Welfare Act with a fine up to $50,000 and 5 years imprisonment.

It is also an offense under the Biodiversity Conservation Act to feed fauna which carries a fine of $20,000.
