Police shoot man in suburban Perth street

Police have shot a man in a suburban Perth street after he allegedly repeatedly rammed their vehicle in a stolen car as he tried to flee.

The confrontation unfolded after officers saw the hatchback in the driveway of a home in Seville Grove on Thursday morning and drove up behind it.

The man allegedly reversed into the police car, causing significant damage, while the passenger got out and ran away.

Police say the driver, aged in his 30s, continued to smash into their vehicle until he was able to manoeuvre past it.

He was then shot in the shoulder.

He was given first aid and taken to Royal Perth Hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

He is in a stable condition.

Officers from the homicide squad and the internal affairs unit are investigating.
