At least six Perth school boys and one girl have been charged over an elaborate scheme to try and catch pedophiles using the dating app Grindr.

9News understands that up to ten students created a fake profile on the social networking app to lure older men to parks and mug them.

The three robberies took place last weekend at parks in the Scarborough area.

When the men arrived they were allegedly mugged by the gang, and on one occasion a victim was allegedly assaulted.

Sources have told 9News the teens were operating on the belief that they were delivering some sort of vigilante justice.

The teenagers, all aged between 15 and 17, attend the same Western Suburbs high school and so far at least seven of them have been charged, with possibly more to come.

They'll face Perth Children's court next month.
