Perth's Lord Mayor set to return in 2018

Embattled Perth Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi will resume her duties in the New Year after successfully challenging her 18-month suspension.

Ms Scaffidi released a statement on Twitter, saying she would return as mayor on January 8, four months since she voluntarily stood down pending the outcome of her appeals case.

She was disqualified from office for 18 months after the State Administrative Tribunal found she had seriously breached the Local Government Act 45 times for not disclosing third-party-funded travel and accommodation.

Among the breaches were a BHP-funded trip to the Beijing Olympics and separate travel to the Broome Cup.

The WA Court of Appeal unanimously overturned 26 of the adverse findings.

The SAT will determine new penalties for the 19 breaches she did not appeal.

The WA government has repeatedly pushed for Ms Scaffidi, who has admitted to five breaches, to resign over the long-running saga.

She has remained entitled to her salary.

The Lord Mayor is expected to face a differently constituted SAT in late January or early February for a two-day hearing.
