Perth's ambulance ban passes first test

Perth's ban on ambulance ramping will be put to the test for a second day.

Under the ban that came into effect on Wednesday, paramedics must transfer responsibility for patients to staff at Royal Perth, Fiona Stanley and Sir Charles Gairdner hospitals within 30 minutes of their arrival.

Health Minister Kim Hames said the first day went smoothly, with emergency departments not descending into bedlam.

Medical unions claimed the ban would cause chaos at the hospitals and bring back "corridor care" for patients.
