Perth police target crime at beaches

Perth beaches and central entertainment precinct will be patrolled by police this month in a special operation targeting opportunistic criminals and anti-social behaviour.

Local policing teams will be joined by the dog squad, mounted section, traffic and specialist units in an effort to identify potential troublemakers and intervene before their behaviour escalates.

Acting Assistant Commissioner Brad Royce said alcohol use and anti-social behaviour by some people at or around beaches and near licensed venues was not acceptable.

The public is also urged not to leave valuables unattended in their car or at the beach, which only makes it easier for opportunistic crooks.

"We will also focus on offenders targeting vehicles left unattended for long periods of time, including street parking or car parks at shopping centres, train stations (and) sporting venues," he said.

Operations Safe Beaches and Safe Precinct begin this week.
