Parents of Perth one-punch victim Jarryd Dixon vow to make streets safer

The parents of an alleged one-punch victim have vowed to make Perth's streets safer.

Jarryd Dixon, 27, was allegedly struck while celebrating his sister's birthday on King Street in the CBD earlier this month.

He suffered bleeding on the brain and a fractured skull.

While he's now home from hospital, Mr Dixon faces a long road to recovery.

"He sits there at night time and says, 'I can't believe it mum, this has happened to me'," his mother Tracy Dixon said.

"And what answers do we give him for that?

"There isn't an answer."

Still grapping with how their lives have changed, Mrs Dixon and her husband Clint have promised to make a difference "because it's getting out of hand".

"We want to get it out there," Mrs Dixon said.

"Let's get together and make something happen here.

"That's what Jarryd's asked for as well."

Mr Dixon's alleged attacker, 24-year-old Collie man Alex James Andretta, appeared today in the Perth Magistrates Court charged with grievous bodily harm.

He was expected to walk free after a brief appearance but was taken into custody because the payment guaranteeing his release had expired.

Mr Andretta will face court again next month.
