Girl and three women burned when lantern explodes at barbecue

A five-year-old girl and three women were burned when a lantern exploded during a backyard barbecue in Perth’s south last night.

9News understands the group had been celebrating a birthday when a tiki-style lantern exploded at a Warnbro home about 8.30pm.

The child suffered serious burns and was rushed to the Perth Children’s Hospital.
Three women, including the little girl’s mother, were also taken to hospital with burns.
It is believed someone was refilling the lantern’s container when the fuel spilled and ignited.
