The identity of a man who died after police used a Taser on him remains a mystery, with WA Police yet to release any details about him.

The man died after a confrontation about 11.30 (WST) on Friday outside an Officeworks store in East Perth.

A police spokesman said officers were still trying to identify him on Friday evening.

Police say they were driving past the Officeworks on Lord Street when they were waved down by a member of the public who was with the man, who required urgent medical assistance.

But when they tried to help him, he allegedly became aggressive and a struggle ensued, resulting in police having to call for back-up and two officers being injured.

The Taser was used to restrain the man and police say he became unresponsive.

A St John Ambulance spokesman told AAP he was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital but was unable to be saved.

Detectives from the Major Crime Squad and Internal Affairs Unit are investigating.
