Perth hospital staff to walk off job

Royal Perth Hospital support staff will walk off the job to protest the West Australian government's planned cutbacks, their union says.

United Voice claims almost 120 full-time equivalent positions will be axed at the hospital by the end of February next year, equating to 150 part-time and full-time jobs.

Cleaner, orderlies, catering and general hands will down tools at 1pm, saying the action will be "a show of unity against the state government's lies and deception over job losses in WA hospitals".

The union says there will be a disruption to services including internal patient transfers and lunch service.

The Health Department was sought for comment.
