Perth has had its wettest night in eight months - and that's good news after a drier than average start to the year.

Almost 26mm fell in the city, with Bickley on the eastern edge of town and South Perth getting 33m.

Before Monday night, only 21.4mm had fallen in April and 52.4mm for the year, Bureau of Meteorology duty forecaster Gianni Colangelo said.

Perth has now had 78mm in 2016.

The average rainfall for April is 43.8mm and for the first four months of the year it is 85.6mm.

"Hopefully with a bit more rain forecast for Sunday we will be around the average mark," Mr Colangelo said.
