Grandfather blames council after car crashes through home

A Perth grandfather has blamed a local council after a car crashed into his South Lake home.

An out-of-control vehicle ploughed through two walls of the South Lake home just after 9am yesterday, leaving 61-year-old Dale Connolly pinned under rubble.

Not only could he lose his home, but he almost lost his wife in the high-speed crash.

Dale Connelly was asleep on her couch when the red Holden slammed into their home on South Lake Drive.

She spent the night recovering in hospital and incredibly only suffered minor injuries.

“She's got some fairly severe bruising and shock obviously, but she's intact. She's come out – I don't know how,” Mr Connolly said.

Builders spent the day working out if the home needs to be demolished but it's still not clear if it will be.

Mr Connolly says the road is dangerous and he's made several complaints to the city of Cockburn over the three decades he's lived here.

“I just wonder how it would sit with their conscience if two kids who had a near miss yesterday from that car - if they had been seriously injured or killed,” he said.

The driver, a 55-year-old man was also trapped in the wreckage.

Police say he refused a blood alcohol test at the scene.

Locals claim South Lake Drive is notorious for hoons but the council says it's only received two complaints and has already installed traffic islands.

Mr Connolly called for speed bumps to be installed.
