Firefighters have contained a large bushfire burning less than 20km north of Perth's CBD.

The two-to-three hectare fire has been burning since 11am but no longer threatening homes, says the Department of Fire and Emergency Services although the fire is not under control and conditions might change.

A 'watch and act' warning has been downgraded to a 'bushfire advice' for the suburbs of Warwick and Hamersley in the City of Joondalup.

The fire started in the Warrick Open Space near the intersection of Beach Rd and Erindale Rd in Warwick and is moving south.

People have been advised to be extremely careful if caught driving in the area and to close doors and windows and turn off evaporative air conditioners at home but keep water running through the system if possible.

It is a hot and windy day in Perth with temperatures forecast to reach 37 degrees.

Catastrophic fire conditions have been predicted for other parts of WA, including the midwest Gascoyne, Great Southern and Goldfields Midlands on Tuesday and Wednesday.
