A 14-year-old boy charged with murder over the death of a man after a post-Australia Day brawl in the Perth CBD has faced court.

The boy is the eighth male charged over the death of Patrick Slater, 26, who died in hospital after he was attacked with star pickets, screwdrivers and rocks near Elizabeth Quay Station in the early hours of January 27.

The teenager appeared briefly in the Perth Children's Court on Friday and was not required to plead.

He was remanded in custody at Banksia Hill detention centre until his next court appearance on Monday, when two co-accused will also appear.

In the meantime, his mother will be contacted regarding bail conditions.

Among the accused is a 12-year-old boy, one of the youngest people ever to be charged with murder in Australia, who had his bail hearing deferred this week as the courts work out how he would be cared for.
